World’s first ‘Freight Only’ ro-ro vessel.

Set to operate in the Bass Strait near Tasmania, when delivered this SeaRoad vessel will be the world’s first ‘Freight Only’ ro-ro vessel to be powered using LNG fuel. With a maximum operating speed of 20.5 knots, the vessel will have a length of 181m and a beam of 26.6m to give a total of almost 1.25 miles or ‘rolling cargo meters’ on board.
Using LNG as a fuel instead of diesel or HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil), this ro-ro vessel is expected to see massive reductions in its Hydrocarbon, SOx, NOx and C02 emissions during operation.
SCHAAF ExpaTen hydraulic bolts will be installed by Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft during the vessels construction. In the future, when the vessel is not in operation due to maintenance or tailshaft survey requirements, using ExpaTen will allow the propulsion shaft sections to be dis-mounted and reconnected quickly, safely and reliably. The result is that the vessel can soon return to operation without any of the technical problems and costly delays caused by traditional bolting methods.
