In June, the first monopile was erected for the leading 800-megawatt offshore wind project, “Vineyard Wind,” located in Massachusetts. This wind farm comprises 62 GE wind turbines, expected to cater to the annual power consumption of 400,000 households. The monopiles play a crucial role in supporting the wind turbine generators, along with the transition piece, tower, nacelle, and rotor blades. Notably, the heaviest monopiles, weighing over 1,900 tons, stand among the largest ever produced, forming the foundation for the construction of the 13 MW GE Haliade X wind turbines ¬– with the valuable support of our TTG tower flange connections. Additionally, we were instrumental – in collaboration with Liebherr – in the construction of the “Orion” crane, which is now facilitating the installation of the monopiles.
It is truly inspiring and thrilling to be significantly involved in this pioneering project, and after years of development, planning, and manufacturing, to witness it taking shape. We remain enthusiastic about the project’s progress and eagerly anticipate observing the results!
