SCHAAF ExpaTen bolts successfully installed for both sister ships „Siem Helix 1“ and „Siem Helix 2“.
These ships of the type Well Intervention Vessel (WIV) are used for maintenance of oil fields in the offshore area and, as well, in the deep sea. They were certified by the classification society DNVGL, hold the Well Intervention Unit 2 class index and match the MODU (Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit) code.
The order of the shaft supplier includes ExpaTen bolts, which are used to connect the main shafts in the main propulsion chain. Due to the application of SCHAAF ExpaTen bolts, a reduction of the construction space was achieved compared to regular bolts. This applies for both the amount and the diameter of bolts.
Simultaneously, due to usage of ExpaTen bolts, both high torques and high axial forces can be transmitted by only one construction part at the same time.
This also affects the installation and disassembly time, which results in higher flexibility while maintaining thanks to the saved time.
The launching of „Siem Helix 1“ was 09.2015, the identically constructed sister ship „Siem Helix 2“ was 02.2016.
