Ceremonial start of construction of plant 3 of SCHAAF GmbH & Co. KG.

After an intensive planning process, the construction of the new production and administration facility of SCHAAF GmbH & Co. KG started in the industrial park GIPCO, Erkelenz on 28,000 sqm. For the symbolic start of construction, the ceremonial ground-breaking took place with all shareholders (Ralf Koellges, Ricarda Koellges, Lennart Koellges and Rick Yu) of the family business in October 2022.

Since the 1970s, Schaaf has been manufacturing bolted connections that are pretensioned with hydraulic high-pressure tooling and thus achieve an enormous service life. In recent years the demand for new and more efficient connection solutions has increased particularly in the areas of shipbuilding and wind turbines. The know-how of the technical design department, the consistently high-quality management and the close cooperation with worldwide companies created pioneering and patented products on the market – Made in Erkelenz. In addition to the production facilities in China and Switzerland, the course for the future is now being set. The new plant 3 covers approx. 28,000 sqm and is divided into five construction sections.

The construction work for the first two construction sections 1 and 2 has now begun. The state-of-the-art building, designed for sustainability and with a total investment of approx. 20 million euros, comprises about 10,000 sqm of production and office space including storage. This alone corresponds to a doubling of SCHAAF’s production space in Germany. Another possibility for long-term expansion is offered by the reserve area in the front part of the property, which is already planned for construction sections 3, 4 and 5 with another total of 8,000 sqm.

After the completion of all construction sections, a total of more than 18,000 sqm of new production space will be created at GIPCO. This means that SCHAAF will continue to be able to create jobs in the areas of construction, administration and production in the future. With this step, SCHAAF is looking forward to a successful future. “The end of the line is far from being reached. Internationally, in particular, it is recognised that know-how and quality are increasingly in demand,” says managing director and shareholder Mr Ralf Koellges.
