In August 2011, SCHAAF was asked to supply a special device for inserting anti-friction bearings into wind turbines. Owing to the huge construction size of 1600 mm in diameter and the risk of the bearing tilting, individual cylinders are out of the question, rather a solution involving the insertion of the bearings precisely by means of an annular piston was sought. In the assembly process, a radial film of oil is simultaneously built up to minimise friction (oil press fit).
In order to be able to check the assembly, the device has 4 separate measurement options, with which the coupling movement can be visualised and monitored. After achieving the final position, the main nuts Tr1400x8 can be turned by means of a pinion drive and adaptable sprocket.
The device also has a manual piston return for ease of handling. Despite the large dimensions, the tool could be made and supplied within a few weeks.
