At the end of 2011, SCHAAF received two large contracts from Schottel, one of the world’s leading manufacturer of drives and control systems for ships and offshore applications in Germany to supply GripLoc couplings and ExpaTen bolts.

The first order was for GripLoc couplings and the equipment needed to connect the two main power trains of two ferries. Thanks to the friction-enhancing measures, a 2.5-fold safety is achieved.

The scope of delivery of the second order included both GripLoc couplings and ExpaTen bolts along with the associated equipment for three RORO container ships. Here, too, it is a matter of connecting the power trains by means of GripLoc couplings. Furthermore, thanks to the best possible coordination of the components with each other, use could be made of all the advantages of the SCHAAF products so that only one hydraulic nut is necessary for the assembly of the various GripLoc couplings. In addition, several flange connections were carried out using SCHAAF ExpaTen bolts. Here, too, the system solution from SCHAAF came into its own, as both systems (GripLoc and ExpaTen) can be assembled with the same hydraulic pump.
