Just as with MAN Diesel & Turbo SE in Oberhausen and MAN Diesel & Turbo China Production in Changzhou in 2010, SCHAAF received an order for a Mounting Documentation System (MDS) with integrated Tool Management System (TMS) from MAN in Augsburg in the middle of 2011. The TMS monitors tool systems created in the server and offers the worker the chance to monitor and check the status of the tooling system. The MDS is used in the assembly at MAN Augsburg for the transverse and main tie rods. The engine data sheet with serial number is scanned in and monitored and then documents the tensioning process of the bolted joint. This achieves the best possible monitoring of the elongation of the screws and of the pressure.

Thanks to the opportunity to document the results of the tensioning process, the customer is at liberty to generate evaluations of statistical data. Software adjustments to the MDS can be carried out at the customer’s request at short notice and at any time. The system is easy to use. The user selects the type of bolted connection using the touchscreen and is then guided through the entire assembly process with the aid of the computer program.
