In July 2013 SCHAAF received another order for ExpaTen bolts from a Chinese joint venture, Dalian COSCO KHI Shipengineering Co. Ltd. and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. Japan. This is about a ship of the VLCC tanker ship class. The ExpaTen bolts are used in the main drive train for connecting the main shafts. The advantage of using SCHAAF ExpaTen bolts is that both, high torques and axial forces can be transmitted. Furthermore, SCHAAF ExpaTen bolts need less constructed space, since the amount of bolts or the diameters of bolts can be considerably reduced. Even an easy and safe dismantling is guaranteed at any time, which is a main factor in shipbuilding.
